Year One and Two Hangi.

This term we have been learning about Maori Myths and legends. First of all, we retold the story in our own words. Then we drew a picture using Kidspiration. After that we used Photostory3 to add the audio to our pictures.

Chatter Pix

Today a group of us went to work in Mrs Eden's room. She showed us how to make Chatterkids videos on the iPads. We drew the pictures first and then we recorded our voices. It was fun and we had lots of laughs.

Our Matariki Feast.

On the last day of term 2, we had a shared lunch to celebrate Matariki.  Everyone bought along a plate of food to share and also a game or toy to play with.  In the afternoon, we invited our Buddy Class to share afternoon tea with us as we had so much food!

This week, the Sharks Reading Group made some bird feeders and bird seed cake.  We hung the feeders in the garden so that the birds have something to eat.  It took a few days for the birds to realise that there was food there waiting for them!

We have been having a blast in Room 13 learning All About Space.

We painted our favourite planets.  Some of us really like the Gas Giants and some of us like the Inner planets!

We have written some really amazing acrostic poetry.

We have also been learning about hot and cold colours, and how the planets vary in colour depending on how close or far away from the sun they are.  

We achieved this effect using shaving foam and food colouring!! It was so much fun!

Some of us have created alien spaceships.

We also made some fantastic planet spinners to help us to remember that the sun is at the centre of our universe, and that the planets move around the sun!

Year 1/2 Syndicate BIG DAY OUT!!!

Wow!  What a super day we have had today travelling around Nelson on the Red Double Decker bus!!

Room 13 and Room 16 got to go on the Double Decker bus first!!

Our first stop was Nelson Cathedral.

We couldn't believe how big it was!!

Next, we headed to Founders Park.

Our first stop was the Fire Station.  We thought it might take a long time for the horse and cart to get to a fire!!

Next we went to the Hospital.  We were interested to see how different an olden day hospital looked.

It looked different - and creepy!  Still it was our favourite place!

We also saw the trains.........

And the Bristol Freighter.

Kayla ended up in the stocks!!

We also went to the Dentist........

And wondered how you might get on the Penny Farthing?

After lunch, we climbed back on the Double Decker bus and traveled out to the Boulder Bank.  The view was amazing....

Hairy MacLary kept barking out the window at the passing cars.

The Boulder Bank was amazing!!!  We got to have a big explore....

We had a super day........learning All About Nelson.

Discovery Time!!

Today in Discovery Time, we made toasted sandwiches!  Yum!  We learned that you need to put the margarine on the outside of the sandwich so that it doesn't stick to the grill - weird!  Our focus was "Working Together" and we had heaps of opportunities to help each other out.  We also played with the dress ups.  The boys looked hilarious in their wigs!  The girls made a hut and made up a cats and dogs game.
